# A private gratitude log

Write down three good things, small ones count, and watch the pages fill up. Your log lives only in this browser: no account, nothing uploaded.

## Why three good things?

Writing down a few things that went well, and why, is one of the simplest gratitude exercises. It was among the exercises tested in a 2005 online study by Martin Seligman and colleagues, where volunteers did it each evening for a week. Keeping it to three makes it quick enough for every day. Specific beats general: “Sam saved me the last slice” will mean more when you reread it than “friends”.

## How the log works

Pick the date (today is filled in), write up to three things and an optional note, and save. Entries are listed newest first, grouped by day; you can write more than one entry for the same day. Use **Edit** to change one and **Delete** to remove it (you can undo straight away). The search box matches words anywhere in an entry, including the day’s name, so “Sunday” or “Mum” both work.

Your **streak** counts consecutive days with an entry up to today. If you have not written today yet, it counts up to yesterday, so the evening habit is not lost at breakfast.

## Keeping a copy

Because the log is stored only in this browser, it disappears if you clear the site’s data or switch devices. **Export JSON** saves a complete copy you can import later, here or in another browser; importing merges with what is already here and never creates duplicates. **Export text** gives you a readable diary file to print or keep.

## Questions

**Can anyone else read my entries?**

Not through this site: entries never leave your browser. Anyone who uses this browser profile on your device could open the page and see them, so use a private profile if you share a computer.

**Will my entries sync to my phone?**

No. Export a JSON file on one device and import it on the other. Importing merges the two logs and keeps the newer version of any entry edited in both.

**Is there a limit to how much I can write?**

Each good thing can be up to 280 characters and each note up to 2,000. Browsers allow several megabytes of local storage per site, which is years of daily entries.
