# Days since and until

How long until the holiday, or how long since you started? Pick a date and see the count in days, weeks, months and weekdays. Save the ones you check often.

## How the count works

The counter takes today’s date from your device and counts whole calendar days to the date you choose: *days until* for a future date, *days since* for a past one. By default it counts the way you would on a calendar, from tomorrow up to and including the target day, so 1 to 3 March is 2 days. Tick **Count both the first and the last day** when you need both ends, for example for a 5-day course that runs Monday to Friday.

Months are calendar months: from 15 January to 15 March is 2 months. When the start day does not exist in the end month, the last day of that month completes the month, so 31 January to 28 February counts as 1 month. **Weekdays** counts Monday to Friday in the same span and ignores public holidays, which differ from place to place.

## Leap years and clock changes

The arithmetic is done on calendar dates, never on hours, so a daylight-saving change cannot nudge a count by a day, and 29 February is counted only in leap years (every fourth year, except century years not divisible by 400: 2000 was a leap year, 2100 will not be). Saved counters recalculate from your device’s date each time you open the page.

## Questions

**Why does another website give me one day more?**

It probably counts both the start and the end day. Tick “Count both the first and the last day” to count the same way.

**Can I count to a date far in the past or future?**

Yes, any date from the year 1000 to 9999. Dates use today’s calendar (the Gregorian calendar) throughout, even before it was adopted.

**Where are my saved counters kept?**

Only in this browser’s local storage on this device. They are not uploaded, so they will not appear on your other devices.
